Sicario has been one of my most anticipated movies of the year and it didn’t let me down. It stars Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro, and Josh Brolin. It’s set around them trying to find a cartel leader in Mexico, well at least that’s all I knew about it going into and I think that was a good thing. I won’t go anymore into the plot because I don’t want to ruin it for anyone who might be seeing it. I loved the dark tone of this movie, and how violent it was. They didn’t rely on action or violence to keep you in it thought. There was a lot of build up to the more drama filled parts but it was worth it. The best part about the whole movie was Del Toro, he was a bad ass. I will say the couple things I didn’t like was a side plot with a character that felt a little unnecessary, and there’s a couple scenes at the beginning that are a little slow. I also thought Emily Blunt was the main character but she had a lot less screen time then I thought she would but she was great in it. I loved this movie and I’m gonna go see it again for sure. 3 and a 1/2 stars (for now)
The Martian is a new Ridley Scott Movie staring Matt Damon and a shit ton of other people. Matt Damon’s character gets stranded on Mars after he is presumed dead and his team leaves him behind. First off, visually this movie is stunning. I can’t recall a movie that has looked better, especially one set in space. Damon did a really good job for a character that is stranded by himself, so he basically has to interact with himself for a good portion of the film. The movie was really funny for something that should have been about a depressed guy in space. I do feel like all the jokes were used in the trailers and that took away from them a lot. I just need to stop watching trailers. Everyone else in the film did really good as well but I feel like there was too many big name people in this and they were fighting over screen time and that they gave more to characters i really didn’t care about. I wish I would have saw more of Jessica Chastain, but that is probably cause I’m in love with her. I’m glad I wasn’t able to predict what was going to happen in it, but during the climax of the film I never really felt like he might not survive. It always had a feeling that he was going to be rescued from the way they set it up. Gravity definitely felt like a more real a gritty suspenseful film. And The Martian was way too long in my opinion. 3 and a 1/2 stars
